Painting a Day Project: #48

"Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get." Thanks, Forrest, that's been running through my brain all evening...haha. Oh, wait, they're macaroons, not chocolates. Close enough. Back to my other favourite painting subject, sweet treats. I'm on day one of a reduced refined sugar plan so what better to paint than a box of Parisian pastries? Sugar is on the brain. "Laduree Box", 9x12", acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas. Bon appetit! xo

Painting a Day Project: #47

Another wonderful Sunday afternoon spent in the studio of Suzanne Etienne, local Ashland painter. I'm on an "all things nautical" theme right now with my visual journal, magazine clippings, Pinterest, doodles and paintings. I fell in love with this image from an old home decor magazine photo, of course, vintage buoys should be sherbet colored and hanging off fences....why didn't I think of that? Perhaps inspiration for my next home... The sea is calling me, to be sure. In the meantime, "Oh, Buoy", 24 x 30", acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas. xo

Painting a Day Project: #46

The Toes Knows. It's warm here in Ashland, Oregon. Hot, actually. I have spent so many years living in a climate where summer is winter, winter is rainy, autumn is toasty and no matter what month the seasonal calendar you're supposed to be in, bring a sweater. Even after two years here, it is still slightly foreign and exciting that every day between June and September is an open-toed, summer-dress kind of day and I never take it for granted. xo

Painting a Day Project: #45

Done a couple of weeks ago on a business trip to Atlanta, I wanted to capture the fun essence of the Georgia Peach Pie. A few tubes of gouache, a sketchbook, and some bad hotel room TV on an evening in, a baked my own pie. Y'all come back now. xo

Painting a Day Project: #44

I love boats. And sailing. And the Ocean. Anything on, in or near the water. And stripes and flags and modern coastal imagery, too! So paying a little homage to all things nautical today. "Set Sail", 24 x 24" on canvas with acrylic. xo

Painting a Day Project: #43

One of my favourite shops & sweet treats in the world, Laduree & their famous macaroons. Fingers crossed that these cookies are the new cupcake. Ballet slipper pink is the new tiffany blue and that I won't give up painting these little cuties even though they are deceptively difficult to capture--basically sherbet colored hamburgers!!! "Laduree": acrylic on canvas, 16"x 20".

Painting a Day Project: #42

Sunday afternoon tea party here. I love finding the quirky & extraordinary in the simple things and these charming tea tins from Fortnum & Mason, Laduree and Mariage Freres scattered around  Suzanne Etienne's art studio were the perfect subject today. "Tea Tins" is acrylic on 24" x 24" gallery wrapped canvas.
